The contributions of the Greek people to human history are enormous. Famous and talented people from ancient times hail from Greece, including Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Homer, Herodotus, Hippocrates, Sophocles, Euripides, Pythagoras, Archimedes, Solon, Diogenes, and many others.
Among the great founders of world superpowers, Alexander the Great was also a Greek. The Hellenic world that emerged determined the course of development for many nations.
Today, the Olympic Games are a grand international event.
The Olympic flame is carried from the Greek city of Olympia in Greece. The torch then travels through many countries to the Olympic venue. The Olympic Games in Ancient Greece took place in 776 BC in the sacred city of Olympia.
This means that 2,800 years ago, the Greek people created a sporting event that still serves and benefits humanity today, at the beginning of the 3rd millennium.
