The Bogd Khan Palace Museum is located in the Bayanzurkh District of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
The palace complex of the Bogd Khan is situated in the southeastern part of Ulaanbaatar, in the Bayanzurkh District.
The complex was constructed between 1893 and 1912 by order of Bogd Gegeen VIII—the eighth Khalkha Jebtsundamba Khutuktu and the spiritual leader of Mongolian Buddhists. He was also the Bogd Khan, the theocratic ruler of Mongolia (1911–1921) and a monarch with limited powers (1921–1924).
Originally, the palace consisted of four buildings; today, the central part of the complex and the Winter Palace remain.
Bogd Khan VIII lived in the palace with his wife, Tsendiin Dondogdulam.
During the era of the Mongolian People’s Republic, the National Museum of Mongolia was opened within the Winter Palace; in 1961, it was transformed into the Bogd Khan Museum.
Today, the Bogd Khan Palace Museum attracts many visitors and tourists from all over the world.
